While we've all gotten used to sighing at gigabyte-sized Docker images, WebAssembly is quietly packing its bags and leaving them in the dust. Turns out, a full game engine compiles to just 35MB of WASM. Yes, you heard that right: 35 megabytes — that's the size of a couple of RAW photos, not an entire engine.

Docker is like that IKEA wardrobe: seems convenient, but by the time you assemble it, you've sweated buckets, and it weighs as much as a safe. Every layer, every library adds weight. Result: images in the hundreds of megabytes — if you're lucky. WASM, on the other hand, is a Swiss Army knife: compact, has everything you need, and no unnecessary layers.

Developers are already perking up: if WASM can replace Docker in microservices, it would solve slow deploys and bloated registries. But it's not all sunshine: WASM still can't handle system calls as flexibly as containers. However, for edge computing and serverless — it's a dream.
