Meta Confirms Thousands of Instagram Accounts Hacked via Its AI Chatbot

Meta has officially confirmed what many suspected: its AI chatbot isn't just a useless conversationalist, but also a handy tool for hacking. Attackers exploited a vulnerability in the chatbot to hijack thousands of Instagram accounts.

How did it work? Hackers sent victims suspicious links that looked like invitations from Meta AI. If the user clicked, their account fell under the attacker's control.

Meta has since patched the hole and restored access to affected users. But the lesson is clear: trusting AI chatbots is like leaving your house key under the doormat.

METABYTE's take: Meta should rethink security before shoving AI everywhere. We're all for innovation, but without stress-testing, it's just hype on crutches.
