Google Testing Lets You Edit Code While on a Call — No More 'Can You Share Your Screen?'

Ever called a colleague to discuss a bug, only to spend 15 minutes staring at each other on Zoom? Google Testing's team has a solution: "Construct with Collaborators, Call with Work." It's exactly what it sounds like — during a call, participants can edit the same code simultaneously in real time. No more "let me share my screen" or "I'll send you a screenshot." It's like Google Docs, but for code, with the added bonus of being able to curse at the build without muting.

Devs who've tried to explain a bug with vague gestures and "you know, that loop with the variable" will appreciate this. Now you can literally point at the code. The question is: will this lead to live code reviews where someone says, "let's add an else here" in the middle of a call? Maybe that's still better than a JIRA board with 47 columns and comments from six months ago.

Google Testing hasn't shared all the details yet, but promises integration with major IDEs and version control systems. If it works, "call" might no longer be synonymous with "wasted hour." If not, at least it'll be fun watching two people try to hit Ctrl+S at the same time.
