The Benny Blanco Death of Developer Marketing

Remember when developer marketing was honest? Neither do I, but the original article argues it all went downhill thanks to producer Benny Blanco. Sounds like a conspiracy theory, but let's dive in.

The Gist Benny Blanco is the guy who wrote hits for all pop stars but stayed behind the scenes. That's exactly how devrel works now: a flood of articles from "experts" who are just remixing the same ideas. Developers smell this and stop trusting any content, even the useful stuff. Marketing becomes noise everyone ignores, like JIRA notifications with 47 columns.

Why It Hurts When every other blog post is "5 reasons to use our product" with identical screenshots, trust drops through the floor. Developers are a skeptical bunch: they'd rather believe a colleague from a Telegram chat than another "evangelist" with a perfect avatar. That's a problem: if your content doesn't deliver real value, it gets scrolled past like a EULA.

What to Do? The author suggests going back to basics: write honestly, share real experiences (even failures), and don't try to be everyone's singer. One article that saved someone's Friday night is better than a hundred template texts that make you want to cry.

METABYTE Studio's Comment We once wrote "5 reasons to choose React" too, but then realized: developers don't want reasons, they want solutions to their problems. So now our content is honest experience, even if it ends with "and then everything broke."
