Building ADK Agents with Azure Cloud Shell: Gemini CLI Joins the Party

If you've ever spent a Friday evening wrestling with Python environments to test an AI agent, Azure Cloud Shell just threw you a lifeline. Microsoft has integrated Gemini CLI and ADK (Agent Development Kit) directly into the browser-based shell, letting you build and run agents without installing a thing.

What's actually new?

• Gemini CLI runs natively in Azure Cloud Shell, so you can invoke models from anywhere.
• ADK is now wired to Azure Foundry, making model management less of a chore.
• It's cross-cloud and cross-platform—Mac, Linux, Windows: nobody's left out.

Essentially, Microsoft decided that local dev environments are so 2019. "Why suffer dependency hell when you can just run everything in the cloud?" they mused, and promptly added Gemini to the shell. Now you can prototype agents while sipping coffee at your favorite café, no Docker images to haul around.

Of course, this doesn't magically fix auth timeouts or the occasional 500 error, but it's a solid step toward frictionless AI development. And hey, anything that reduces the number of times you type pip install is a win in my book.
