AWS Agent Toolkit: 20+ Skills for Your Agent, but Without This File They're Just Shelf Decor

AWS figured developers don't just need agents — they need agents with skills. 20+ of them. Sounds like a dream: your AI sidekick can now handle S3, Lambda, and maybe even make coffee (just kidding, but who knows what the next update brings).

But here's the catch. All these skills are like a set of screwdrivers from IKEA: nice to have, but useless without instructions. Turns out, for your agent to actually load these skills, it needs a special MCP file. Yes, the one everyone forgets to create until 3 AM when the CI/CD pipeline breaks for the hundredth time.

Devs familiar with configuration pain already feel a chill. Without that file, your agent will be all polite nods and no action — like a team lead in a daily standup. AWS provided documentation, of course, but who reads that before deploy?

Bottom line: Agent Toolkit is great, but only if you bother to add one line to your config. Otherwise, those 20+ skills stay a pretty list in a marketing brochure.
