Anthropic Hit $1B ARR in 16 Months. I Went Looking for Where the Money Actually Comes From
A hockey-stick revenue chart tells you who gets charged, not who pays. So I dug deeper.

Anthropic — the company behind Claude — hit $1 billion in annualized revenue (ARR) in just 16 months. Impressive, right? But as the author of the investigation rightly points out, a revenue chart that goes vertical tells you who gets charged, not who actually pays.
So they went digging and found: the real cash comes from enterprise clients — banks, insurance companies, and even government agencies — who use Claude for customer support automation, code generation, and document analysis. It's like startups maxing out AWS credits to impress VCs, except here the credits are real contracts.
Anthropic doesn't disclose customer breakdown, but the author traced large deals with financial institutions and resell through AWS and GCP, where Claude is offered as a managed service. Apparently, Claude is already replacing junior devs in call centers. Ouch.
METABYTE studio's take: If you want to know where your startup's money actually comes from (and if it'll still be there tomorrow), we can help you set up proper analytics. And sure, we can hook up Claude too — just give the juniors a heads-up.
